Holiness Versus Wholeness

When I used to hear the word holiness, I heard:

Haughtiness.

Rules.

Religion.

Performance.

Outside appearance.

I heard:

Don’t mess up.

Don’t fail.

Don’t look wrong.

Don’t struggle.

Don’t be human.

And honestly?

That pushed me away more than it pulled me in.

Because I already knew brokenness.

I already knew failure.

I already knew shame.

I didn’t need more condemnation.

But the more I study the Word of God, the more I’m realizing holiness was never supposed to produce pride.

It was supposed to produce wholeness.

God was never trying to create robots.

He was forming people.

People who were whole internally.

People who carried peace.

People who lived with honor.

People who understood covenant.

People who knew Him.

The deeper I read Leviticus, the more I realize God cared about everything:

how people treated one another

how they spoke

how they handled bitterness

how they treated the poor

how they handled sexuality

how they honored relationships

how they worshipped

how they carried His name

Not because He is controlling.

Because He understands what destroys us.

And honestly, people are tired.

Tired of religion without relationship.

Tired of truth without compassion.

Tired of rules without understanding.

Tired of appearances without healing.

But I also think people are starving for real truth.

Not hateful truth.

Not self righteous truth.

Not performance preaching.

Truth that says:

God’s ways actually protect us.

Not perfectly.

Not instantly.

But deeply.

I’m not writing this as someone untouched by life.

I got pregnant at 18.

I’m a product of adultery.

I have children walking through hard things too.

I know what brokenness feels like.

I know what survival feels like.

So I’m not here to throw stones.

But I also cannot say broken covenant does not leave wounds.

Because I’ve seen it.

I’ve lived parts of it.

Many of us have.

And somehow in all of this, God is still merciful.

That’s the part religion sometimes misses.

Holiness is not God standing far away saying:

“Be perfect or else.”

Holiness is God saying:

“Come closer.

Let Me heal what is destroying you.”

Because bitterness destroys.

Chaos destroys.

Lust destroys.

Pride destroys.

Fear destroys.

Unforgiveness destroys.

God was never trying to take life from us.

He was trying to preserve it.

I think that’s why covenant is hitting me so deeply right now.

Because covenant is bigger than marriage.

It’s belonging.

Faithfulness.

Alignment.

Honor.

Responsibility.

Love that stays.

Truth that protects.

Mercy that restores.

And honestly?

Most of us were taught religion before relationship.

We learned church language.

But not intimacy with God.

We learned behavior modification.

But not transformation.

We learned how to survive.

But not always how to become whole.

And maybe that’s why so many people recoil at the word holiness now.

Because they hear condemnation instead of invitation.

But the more I walk with God, the more I believe holiness is not about acting superior.

It’s about becoming free.

Survival Is Not Living

Living in survival is one of the most overlooked realities in the Christian walk. We celebrate deliverance, but rarely talk about the process of learning how to live abundantly afterward. A person can
