ONE WORD

Today the Spirit of Truth showed me something so simple, yet so profound.

I’ve read Isaiah 61 many times.

I’ve prayed it.

I’ve quoted it.

I’ve tried to put on the garment of praise.

Yet there were seasons when joy seemed just out of reach.

Today, the Holy Spirit put one word on it.

Mourning.

Jesus said the Spirit of Truth would guide us into all truth. Today, He did exactly that.

In my season of heaviness, I wasn’t lacking praise.

I was carrying mourning.

Isaiah 61 suddenly came alive.

God doesn’t begin with the garment of praise.

He begins with those who mourn.

He gives the oil of joy for mourning, then the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

The order matters.

For so long, I tried to put on the garment of praise, but I skipped the oil.

I was trying to praise through what God wanted to heal.

The Spirit of Truth lovingly revealed what was underneath.

Sometimes it’s grief.

Sometimes disappointment.

Sometimes trauma.

Sometimes loss.

Not every heavy heart has the same root, but the Holy Spirit knows every one.

He doesn’t expose our hearts to shame us.

He reveals the root so He can heal it.

That’s what truth does.

Truth doesn’t just give information.

Truth brings freedom.

Sometimes one word from the Holy Spirit changes everything.

Once He put a name to what I was carrying, I knew what to bring to Him.

And that’s where the beautiful exchange begins.

Beauty for ashes.

The oil of joy for mourning.

The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.

What I once thought was a command to praise, I now see as an invitation to receive.

Receive His healing.

Receive His anointing.

Receive His joy.

Then praise becomes the natural response to what He has done.

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…” — John 16:13 (KJV)

“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion… to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…” — Isaiah 61:3 (KJV) 🙌❤️
