Giving From Hunger

There is a question I’ve been sitting with lately:

Lord, where am I giving from fullness, and where am I giving from hunger?

At first, I didn’t understand the difference.

I thought love was love. Serving was serving. Giving was giving.

But the longer I sat with the Lord, the more I realized that sometimes we give because we are overflowing.

And sometimes we give because we are starving.

Sometimes we spend years being the strong one. The dependable one. The encourager. The helper. The one who shows up.

And somewhere along the way, we begin giving away the very things we desperately need ourselves.

Love. Kindness. Grace. Attention. Comfort. Understanding.

Not because we are manipulative.

Not because our motives are bad.

But because hungry people often give away what they hope to receive.

One of the hardest truths I have ever faced is this:

I have been feeding everyone else, and I am starving.

That realization isn’t condemnation.

It’s an invitation.

An invitation to stop performing. To stop proving. To stop carrying everyone else for a moment.

And to let God reveal the places where I have been trying to receive from people what only He can truly supply.

I am learning that being needed is not the same as being loved.

Being useful is not the same as being known.

Being surrounded by people is not the same as belonging.

And being strong is not the same as being whole.

So I sit before the Lord with a simple prayer:

Show me where I am giving from fullness.

Show me where I am giving from hunger.

Teach me how to receive.

Teach me how to give from abundance instead of need.

Teach me how to stop looking to people for what only You can provide.

And teach me how to rest in the love You have already given.

“I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Strength in Weakness

One day in ministry, I felt very vulnerable, inadequate, and weak. That was unusual for me. I didn’t feel like the warrior. I felt fragile. I felt the weight of what I was carrying. Insecurity tried t

Up From The Graveyard

The parable of the talents has been stirring in me. James tells us that faith without works is dead. I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to pray like everything depends on God, yet forget that He
