Strength in Weakness

One day in ministry, I felt very vulnerable, inadequate, and weak.

That was unusual for me.

I didn’t feel like the warrior. I felt fragile. I felt the weight of what I was carrying.

Insecurity tried to creep in.

For a moment, I found myself comparing.

Comparing my weakness to someone else’s strength.

Comparing my suffering to someone else’s victory.

Comparing what I felt in that moment to what I thought prayer was supposed to sound like.

Then I remembered something.

The Holy Spirit lives within me.

I had been measuring the moment by what I felt instead of by what was true.

We walk by the Spirit, not by the flesh.

My flesh felt weak, but His grace is sufficient in weakness.

My flesh felt inadequate, but when I am weak, then I am strong through Christ.

My flesh felt limited, but He is the God of all flesh, and nothing is too hard for Him.

Those truths broke the agreement I was making with what I was feeling.

The Lord has delivered me from many things.

This time, He had to deliver me through it.

And in the middle of it, He reminded me that my confidence was never supposed to be in my own strength.

It was never supposed to be in how powerful I sound, how strong I feel, or how well I pray.

My confidence is in the Holy Spirit.

God uses powerful prayers.

God uses weak prayers.

God uses warrior prayers.

God uses fragile prayers.

They are all prayers when they come from the Spirit.

Sometimes we pray from a place of victory.

Sometimes we pray while we’re hurting, grieving, struggling, and barely holding ourselves together.

God is not looking for performance.

He is looking for hearts that remain connected to Him.

The Holy Spirit lives within us.

His grace is sufficient.

His strength is made perfect in weakness.

And He is more than enough.

God can do a lot with weakness, for when I am weak, He is strong.

I know this is true.
