You Let Go, But You Kept Kim

There was a time when every loss cost me a piece of myself.
A relationship ended and I questioned my value.
A door closed and I questioned my calling.
Someone rejected me and I rejected myself.
I didn’t just lose the situation.
I lost me.
But healing changes things.
Now when something ends, I still grieve.
I still cry.
I still feel disappointment.
But I don’t hand over my identity with it.
This time I let go.
But I kept Kim.
I kept my worth.
I kept my dignity.
I kept my voice.
I kept my value.
That may not sound like much to someone else, but it is a miracle to me.
Because there were seasons when I left carrying labels that never belonged to me.
Seasons when I accepted judgments that God never spoke.
Seasons when I abandoned myself trying to keep someone else.
Not this time.
This time I walked away with my head high.
Not because I was right.
Not because they were wrong.
But because my identity was no longer sitting at that table.
My identity was never theirs to give.
And it was never theirs to take.
